Early Primitives

Arch in Glass  Date unknown
 Rendered in Specular Infini-D 2.6

Simple, obvious, probably the sort of things that most every 3D artist does when starting out. "Hey, look-- a reflection!!!" Included mostly for the cool texture, plus it was the first rendered scene I ever completed.

Watery Pipeline  Date unknown
 Rendered in Specular Infini-D 2.6

This is where I started to look beyond the obvious. In this case, multiple light sources were the key to some interesting interplay of shadow. The light reflections on the water were part of the goal. I intentionally minimized the use of textures in order to concentrate on the light and shadow placement.

Near Orion  Date unknown
 Rendered in Specular Infini-D 2.6

Finally, something vaguely non-abstract. You may notice the almost total lack of textures on the station itself; I had yet to figure out effective texture placement on complex shapes. I include this mostly as a contrast to later efforts with similar themes, especially the LEO series.

LEO Series

LEO 1B  11 September 1997
 Rendered in Strata StudioPro 2.0.2a

The first of a work-in-progress series, this model is obviously far more complicated than anything that went before, and it isn't even half-finished yet. There are still a number of things to add, such as more modules, more detail to the structure, collision lights, a background, and so on. The texture for the solar arrays could use some work as well.

The original is available as a GIF image (25.7 Kb; 680x491 pixels).

LEO 1D  16 September 1997
 Rendered in Strata StudioPro 2.1

An upgrade of the previous scene, with vastly improved solar panels and other details, including collision lights. The angle is a bit higher, but mostly it's the same thing-- except the parts which are different.

The original is available as a GIF image (28.1 Kb; 515x443 pixels).
